Suns Out Buns Out: 6 Tips for the Ultimate Bikini Body

It’s officially summer here in Leucadia and I am LOVING it. I live for summer; the days are long, sun is warm, and evening are filled with neighborhood barbecues on wooden porches. Bikinis are appropriate attire, and the farmers market produce is like an explosion of flavor with every bite. Basically, it doesn’t get much better than this.

With bikini season, comes a lot of self doubt, a lot of insecurities, and a lot of shaming. Bikinis show almost the whole sha-bang. I mean, the smaller the better, right? You’re basically wearing your underwear in public, and calling it by a different name. I can’t tell you how many times my friends have told me, “I’m fat”, “I HAVE to go to the gym”, “I hate my love handles”, or some other bullshit self-hate within the past few weeks, and frankly, I’m getting sick of it.

This doesn’t mean I don’t want to encourage you to work out and be healthy. I DO! But, I want you to do those things so you  feel good. After all, you were only given one body and it has to last you for the rest of your life, you can’t just stop by Target and pick up a new one on the way to the party.

6 Tips for the Ultimate Bikini Body

  1. Love Always Wins:
Every time you think a negative thought about your body, say an inner mantra of love. Tell yourself something that you’re doing well, that you’re thriving at, that you’re really beautiful. Pick a mantra for the day, week, or month. Let them happen organically. Fake it till ya make it, and eventually you’ll realize just how beautiful you are!
  2. Don’t Be A Dick:
Don’t be a dick to yourself, and don’t be a dick to others. When you genuinely try to be a good person, it shows. It shows in the way you present yourself, in shows it in your skin, in your smile, and your laugh. Have authentic conversations with people and they’ll see the beauty within you, which will encourage you to see the same.
  3. Disconnect to Reconnect:
Spending time outdoors is oh so sweet and therapeutic. Leave your phone at home, disconnect to reconnect. Remember what it’s like to spend time alone, with your breathe and thoughts. Take a moment with nature to notice how amazing it is, and then you’ll realize how amazing the (your) human body is. What a piece of art it is, and why you should love it!
  4. Hug Yourself Because You Love Yourself:
You may remember that I LOVE hugs, and for good reason (check here incase you forgot!). Spend time hugging those you love, and give yourself a great big hug. Every. Damn. Day. Hug yourself because you love yourself.
  5. Eat Well, Feel Well:
There’s no excuse not to be eating amazing produce this summer. Local farmers markets are literally bursting with fresh fruits and veggies. When you eat better, you’ll feel better. You’ll realize how well your body can work, if you provide it with the right ingredients. This doesn’t mean you can’t have a glass of wine, or a scoop of ice cream (my two latest vices), but everything in moderation. Give yourself the ingredients to feel well and to thrive, and you will. Set yourself up for success!
  6. Put on a Bikini:
You’re body is already beautiful, and perfect, and ready for a bikini. The only thing you have to do is put one on. DONE. Oh, and maybe put on some natural sunscreen too!

Today, I challenge you to delete that self hating, shaming, nonsense bullshit from your vocabulary. Your body wasn’t made it be shamed, it was made to be loved, so let’s love it. Let’s worship it. Let’s have some fun!
